What are OER?

What are OER?

OER are educational, teaching, and research resources that will be available to everyone as a general mutual or common property, or released using certain intellectual property license, that allows editing and distributing this resources and collaborating with others to reuse that resources in business goals. OER includes a lot of subjects as like free textbooks, educational subjects, audio and video lectures, tests, computer programs, and a lot of tools or other techniques that will be used to transfer knowledge and has a huge influence on education and teaching methods and will be offered for free. (creative commons, 2015).

The OER movement depends on the philosophy that believes in education should be available to all humans without any barriers and it should rely on the “openness” meaning that knowledge should be distributed completely free, and participatory through the internet for the sake of humanity. At the first phase the program targets collage educational institutions in KSA, institutions who would like to contribute or interested can be combined in the program agreement.

What sets OER apart from other resources that are freely available on the Internet?

What makes the OER distinguished is that they are issued under a specific use license that allows other users to reuse, revise, remix and redistribute them, by protecting the copyrights of the original author. The author can choose the type of the license under which the OER is shared.
